Cinnamon has long been used to cure everything from athlete’s foot to indigestion. However, three of the most important benefits of this sweet spice are its anti-clotting, anti-microbial and blood sugar controlling capabilities.

The cinnaldehyde in cinnamon helps prevent unwanted clumping of blood platelets. Researchers have shown that patients with type 2 diabetes, when given small doses of cinnamon, have reduced blood sugar levels, increased natural production of insulin and lowered blood cholesterol to boot!, It also helps in reduction of LDL (known as the “bad” cholesterol)but not reducing levels of HDL, the “good” cholesterol. Lowering blood sugar levels, and improving cholesterol ratios can help reverse prediabetes and Metabolic Syndrome.

Cinnamon is also thought to boost brain function. Cinnamon can completely suppress the bacteria that cause urinary tract infections and the fungus associated with yeast infections as well. Cinnamon’s ability to lower the release of arachidonic acid from cell membranes also puts it in the category of an anti-inflammatory food that can be helpful in lessening inflammation.
