Those of you over-55s need to plan their activities to maintain a healthy lifestyle. The activities may include various sports, such as Badminton & Table tennis, Squash & Racquetball, Tennis, Gentle fitness, Pilates & Yoga classes, Gym (fitness studio), Free tea and coffee after every session.
As per Westminster Chronicle, Westminster’s over 55s were awarded seventh place at an annual sports competition.
They were one of the 17 teams who enjoyed participating in the wide range of events on offer, which included badminton, dominos and indoor bowls.
It was the first time that Westminster had entered teams in the Club Wellness Inter Borough Games, held at Brixton Recreation Centre, where they took part in seven of the nine events.
Concessa Penas, 66, was one of the stars in the otherwise all-male darts team, despite having never played the sport before.
She won a game for the team against Greenwich, a side who proved tough opposition as they were mainly made up of regular darts players and their captain used to play for a club.
Ms Penas said: “I have never played darts before so it was quite nice to have beaten Greenwich.”
Another member of the darts team, Roberto Austin, 52, said: “Today has been fantastic, both the hospitality and the competition. I’ve really enjoyed myself.”
Daniel Blackmore, community fitness coordinator at Queen Mother Sports Centre in Victoria, helped to organise the Westminster teams and was very pleased with how the event turned out.
He said: “It’s a chance for people to try out new activities as it creates opportunities to participate in different sports”. “It’s fantastic that we came in the top half of the leader board with only six weeks of planning. Hopefully next year we can move into the top five.”
Many of the competitors had either not taken part in the particular sport before or had not played the it in years, with some vowing to engage in sport more regularly in the future.
Epsom’s Over 55′s came first in the competition, with Greenwich taking second place.
More than 500 competitors took part across the London boroughs with hand massages, refreshments and a raffle adding to the excitement of the day.”
