For many people, the cold clear days of winter bring more than just a rosy glow to the cheeks. They also bring uncomfortable dryness to the skin of the face, hands, and feet. For some people, the problem is worse than just a general tight, dry feeling: They get skin so dry it results in flaking, cracking, even eczema (in which the skin becomes inflamed).
Your Esthetician or Dermatologist can analyze your skin type, troubleshoot your current skin care regimen, and give you advice on the skin care products you should be using.

The low humidity common in many parts of the world during winter can cause dry, irritated skin. When skin becomes dry and irritated, eczema can flare. Here are some tips to help skin feel more comfortable during winter or anytime the air is dry:
- Winter skin can become dry and tight or a combination of dry with oily areas. Adjust your skin care regime to suit a more dehydrating climate. If you normally use cleansing milk, try a cleansing cream instead. Perhaps try a heavier moisturiser to avoid your skin becoming dry because of the change in humidity. Go to a trained therapist and ask for their advice.
- Exfoliate weekly so that external factors, such as wind, rain and the cold, don’t acerbate dry or flaky skin.
- Continue moisturising! Try a massaging a few different essential oils massaged into wet skin after a shower or add a drop or two to your bath. Towel dry and your skin feels quenched and very healthy. If you are giving yourself a foot bath add a few drops of tea tree oil to reduce the risk of bacterial problems in winter socks!
- Pumpkin is not just a seasonal food in autumn but is great for your skin. As the weather changes so will your skin, it may become dry and chapped. Pumpkin has great moisturising properties and also high in vitamin A and C. So mix some pumpkin, honey and milk together to make a wonderful face mask.
- In autumn your lips are prone to becoming chapped and sore.
- Try exfoliating them with your toothbrush and then use lots of lip balm to keep your pout looking perfect.
- Although the sun may not be shining after summer is over, still use a sun factor in your facial products, sun cream is a brilliant barrier from the cold and windy weather.
